My Great Uncle was the basis for a character in the Dick Tracy comic strip and I am looking for it, and more info on it! He was a surgeon/pilot in Erie PA and flew into a town(I think for a surgery) A large crowd had gathered for his arrival(there weren't many airplanes back then) and after landing someone started the airplane again and it was headed right for the crowd! He grabbed the wing to try to stop it and it swung around and amputated his right arm(he was right handed)! He recovered and relearned how to perform surgery with his left hand but it took many years. There was a one armed surgeon featured in the Dick Tracy comic strip based on his story! Any help in finding this strip would be greatly appreciated! His name was Jim(James)Hart...my email is brushjeep@verizon.net. Thanks for your help!!

I don't recognize the character but Don or someone else here might.
Another good place to ask your question would be the Yahoo Group called "comic-strip-classics". If you'd like, I can repost your question there and forward any responses to you.

Clever. Thanks. It's amazing what Google can do under any circumstances, but especially so if you can figure out the right search terms.
I take it this was early in the period of Max Allan's tenure as writer. That's when relatives of Flat Top (one of the few Tracy villains who survived long enough for a second bout with him) started turning up, and all had "top" as part of their names. My favorite was his father, Pop Top.
