I've been following the talk about this black Hood guy, which I never heard of except here, and if hes dead he's not theonly one. Isn't Superman supposed to be dead? Im pretty sure he is. I definitely remember they killed him when I was a kid.

Was that some kind of hallusination or something. I don't think so. It was all over the news. I dont read comic books, I just like cartoons, but I get comics for my son whose 8-years-old. I bought a Superman because I couldn't believe they didn't kill hhim, they said they did, Im sure of it

Don what happened? Did they make him alive again? That sucks.

Yes, Superman was seemingly dead for months, but as RedFive said, he "miraculously" became better.

Early '90s, right? They've done "Death of Superman" stories over and over, but that's the only one that became a media sensation.

I agree that it sucks, Harry, but I'm not sure whether it sucks that they made him undead, or that they "killed" him in the first place. Most likely both. Or maybe it's the whole idea of snuff comics that sucks. If you want to see at a glance which are the snuff issues of a comic book, look it up in the Overstreet Price Guide. Those will be the ones with price spikes.

The way they went about killing him also sucks. They led up to it for months -- months of two guys slugging it out, absolutely mindlessly, the only "story" in evidence being hysterical histrionics on the part of everyone around them, until they were both dead. Only not really, because they both came back.

Not only was it interminably boring (I skimmed it later in a collected edition) -- it was also everything that was alleged to be wrong with comics from the beginning. I wonder how many parents took one look at that turkey and forbade their children to read comic books, ever again. I wonder how much harm DC did to the industry by providing that sterling example for latter-day Fredric Werthams.

Red and Chuck used the familiar phrase "he got better", which usually refers to comic book characters that die and then de-die. But I wonder if he really did. Is that where Superman, to use another familiar phrase, jumped the shark?

Thanks for posting, Harry. You gave me an excuse to vent about something I've been carrying on about for a long time.

I haven't followed The Phantom in years. Of course, if he bites the big one, it's not such a big deal, because he's got that ancestor oath to ensure there's a new one to take his place.
